"Samsung is finally rolling out the new Android version for its Galaxy J and On series smartphones"
While the smartphone brands have now moved on to the latest Android 9 Pie and Android Oreo comes as a standard, Samsung Galaxy J and On series users were still on the dated Android Nougat. However, that's about to change now as the chaebol is pushing out new software updates for the Galaxy J7 Max (first impressions) and Galaxy On Max. Notably, there were talks of these two phones getting Android 8.0 Oreo update last year. However, that didn't happen until now.
The Samsung Galaxy J7 Max and On Max are receiving the firmware version to G615FXXU2BRL3 and G615FUDDU2BRL3, respectively. Notably, the Galaxy On Max is the online-only variant of the J7 Max and both smartphones come with the Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The latest update is the first major OS update for both. The update brings a ton of new features and a refreshed Samsung UI. The latest update also brings the newest December2018 security patch with it. The update weighs 1169.27MB for J7 Max and 1189.76MB for the On Max. Users can manually check for the update by opening the Settings app, tapping Software update, then selecting Download Updates Manually on your device.
To recap on the spec sheet, the Galaxy On Max comes with a 5.7-inch full HD TFT display featuring the conventional 16:9 aspect ratio. The performance department is handled by a 1.6GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6757V processor, mated to 4GB of RAM. In the imaging department, the smartphone offers a 13MP primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture and a 13MP front shooter with f/1.9 aperture. Both cameras are equipped with dedicated LEF flash. A 3,300mAh battery completes the spec sheet of the handset.
Considering that these smartphones were launched with the Android Marshmallow, the latest update could be the last major software update for these phones.
