Samsung Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra: design

Samsung S24 (left) and S24+ (right)

In terms of design, the standard Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus models resemble their S23 counterparts, maintaining the same aluminium frame. They feature IP68 water and dust resistance for enhanced durability and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra introduces some design changes this time. The curved display is gone, and the smartphone now features a flat screen with narrower bezels. The chassis is crafted from titanium instead of aluminium, which claims to provide enhanced protection against damage and has IP68 water and dust resistance. The overall design of the Galaxy S24 Ultra still aligns with that of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Corning Gorilla Armour protects the display, which Samsung claims can reduce reflections by up to 75% and is the most scratch-resistant Gorilla glass protection.

Samsung Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra: display

For display, the vanilla S24 equips a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels, a refresh rate of 120Hz, and a maximum brightness of 2,600nits. The panel is much brighter than the S23 series, and the display is 0.1-inch bigger than the Galaxy S23.

The Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra equip the same Dynamic AMOLED 2X display panel, with a resolution of 3,120 x 1,440 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a peak brightness of 2,600nits. The key difference is the display size; the Galaxy S24+ features a 6.7-inch display, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with a 6.8-inch display. The Galaxy S24+ display is also bigger than the previous Galaxy S23+ by 0.1-inch.

Samsung Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra: cameras

In terms of cameras, the S24 and S24 Plus retain the same specifications as their predecessors. Both feature a triple-camera array, comprising a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. Additionally, they come equipped with a 12MP front-facing selfie camera.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with some new developments in its camera setup. It continues to feature the high-resolution 200MP f/1.7 primary camera, along with the 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and the 12MP ultra-wide camera. The most significant change comes in the form of a new addition, a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, which replaces the previous 10MP telephoto camera with 10x optical zoom. Samsung has opted for a higher-resolution lens instead of prioritising pure zoom power. For selfies, Samsung retains the 12MP front camera.

Samsung Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra: performance, software, and AI

In India, Samsung has launched the standard Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ models with the Exynos 2400 chipset, diverging from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset found in the U.S. markets. This difference might lead to comparatively reduced performance capabilities for these smartphones. In contrast, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC still powers the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Galaxy S24 series will run on OneUI 6.1 based on Android 14 out of the box. The Samsung Galaxy S24 series also comes with a whopping 7 years of OS and security updates, mirroring the approach taken by Google for its Pixel 8 series. T
he Galaxy S24 series also includes a host of AI features, like:

  • Circle to Search which allows users to circle, highlight, scribble on, or tap anything on the screen to see Google search results.
  • Live Translate which enables two-way, real-time voice and text translations of phone calls.
  • Interpreter feature translates live conversations with a split-screen view, allowing two people to easily read the translated text.
