Samsung’s next set of foldables is starting to come into focus. Battery units linked to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8, and a new wider foldable variant have cleared India’s BIS certification, along with a new pair of earbuds expected to launch as the Samsung Galaxy Buds Able.
BIS approvals usually show up when devices are close to being ready, and that timing lines up with Samsung’s typical July window for foldables. The listing (via) includes multiple battery model numbers tied to the Fold 8, Flip 8, and the wider Fold variant, plus an entry for an SM-U600 audio product. Samsung hasn’t confirmed the final name of the wider device yet, but its presence across leaks and firmware suggests it’s more than just an experiment.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 tipped to get a battery upgrade
While the certification doesn’t reveal any information except for the model numbers, previous leaks suggest Samsung might upgrade the battery capacity of its book-style foldable. The Fold 8 and the new wider Fold variant are expected to move to 5,000mAh batteries, up from the 4,400mAh Samsung has stuck with for several generations for the Fold. The Flip 8, meanwhile, looks set to stay closer to its current figure of around 4,300mAh. Charging speeds are also expected to follow the same pattern: 45W wired charging for the Fold 8 and the wider variant, and 25W for the Flip 8.
New additions expected in Samsung’s lineup this year
The wider fold hasn’t officially been confirmed by Samsung but leaks have given us a basic idea of what to expect. Leaked firmware files point to a 4:3 aspect ratio for the inner display, compared to the near-square layout seen on earlier models. That shift sounds small, but it could change how the device feels in everyday use. This is especially interesting considering Apple’s rumoured foldable is also expected to arrive in a similar, wider aspect ratio than regular book-style folds. A wider screen makes video look more natural, gives apps more breathing room, and generally moves the experience closer to a compact tablet. There are also signs that Samsung is continuing to refine the basics, including efforts to reduce the crease.
On the audio side, the Buds Able have now shown up both inside Samsung’s wearable app and in certification databases. Unlike existing options such as the Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Buds 4, we don’t know where this model slots into the current lineup. There is a gap in the lineup when it comes to open-ear or ambient listening, a category Samsung hasn’t addressed so far.
The name alone hints at a possible accessibility angle, but what that actually means isn’t clear yet. It could point to open or ambient listening, or something more specialised like hearing support, though there’s no confirmation. The model number is just as unusual. Samsung’s earbuds typically use SM-R series numbers, but SM-U600 doesn’t fit that pattern. There aren’t any known Galaxy audio devices with an SM-U prefix, which makes this stand out. More details will likely depend on future app updates or certification filings. Given these devices are over a year away, current buyers shouldn’t hold off if they need a foldable now, but those considering an upgrade in mid-2026 might find the changes compelling.
