Tata Motors to supply 25,000 electric cars to Uber in India’s largest order for EVs

The Tata XPres-T EV sedan will be deployed in seven cities and can be hailed under the Premium category of cabs on Uber.

Tata Motors has bagged a massive order of 25,000 units from Uber India for its Tata XPres-T EV sedan. The Indian automotive giant and the American ride-hailing service have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which states that Tata Motors will start deliveries by this month and will be done in a phase-wise manner. This becomes the largest EV order in the country, taking over the 10,000 units order also from Uber for the Tata XPres-T EV sedans.

Notably, Tata has delivered over 50,000 units of EVs for passenger and fleet operations in India so far.

Tata EVs for Uber

The Tata Xpres-T EV sedan will be deployed in seven Indian cities - Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. The Tata Xpres-T EV sedans will operate under the Premium ride category of Uber India. This initiative falls in line with Uber's goal to fully operate zero-emission vehicles, on public transit, or with micro-mobility by 2040.

Tata XPres-T EV price, specifications

The Tata XPres-T EV sedan gets a 25.5kWh and a new 26kWh battery pack option. The new trim level is based on the Ziptron technology from Tata that does duty in the Tata Nexon EV, the Tata Tiago EV and the Tata Tigor EV. Tata's Ziptron technology is a high-voltage architecture that uses a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor producing 75hp and 170Nm. The smaller battery pack delivers an ARAI-certified range of 277km which becomes 315km on the larger battery pack. Tata says that the batteries can go from zero to 80 percent charge in 59 minutes and 110 minutes respectively for the 26kWh and 25.5kWh battery packs when using a DC charger.

The Tata XPres-T EV sedan is priced at Rs 14.98 lakh (ex-showroom) but the benefits of Rs 2.6 lakh in subsidies under the FAME II scheme can be enjoyed.
