- Tata Motors has updated the name of the standard Tata Nexon EV.
- The Nexon EV is now called the Tata Nexon EV Prime.

Tata Motors has updated the nomenclature on the standard Tata Nexon EV, and the vehicle is now called the Tata Nexon EV Prime. From what can be understood, this new naming strategy may have been adopted to better differentiate between the standard and the long-range Nexon EV models. Interestingly, Tata Motors has also introduced a set of new features for the Tata Nexon EV Prime that will be available to existing Tata Nexon EV owners free of cost.
Tata Motors, which has secured a stronghold in the EV space in the Indian automotive market, recently hiked the prices of the Tata Tigor EV, the Tata Nexon EV Prime and the Tata Nexon EV MAX. The range now starts at Rs 12.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base XM variant on the Tigor EV. You can read more about it here.
Tata Nexon EV Prime features
The standard Tata Nexon EV with the 30.3 kWh battery pack has now been renamed the Tata Nexon EV Prime. The new name brings a better distinction between the new long-range Tata Nexon EV MAX and the standard model. Tata Motors has also decided to trickle down some new features from the MAX to the Prime.
The Tata Nexon EV Prime now gets the four-step regenerative braking from the more expensive Nexon EV MAX. This functionality will also come with the accompanying brake light activation feature that turns on the rear brake lights to alert traffic at the rear about the dropping speed of the Nexon EV Prime. The regenerative braking levels should also help conserve and restore energy back to the battery, especially in the city. Can we see a better real-world range with this new feature on the Nexon EV Prime?
The Nexon EV Prime would now also get an iTPMS system based on Tata’s connected platform. This would allow the user to check the vehicle’s tyre pressure on a paired device via Tata’s proprietary connected platform and companion app. Tata will also introduce some smartwatch-based connected features for the Tata Nexon EV Prime, much like on the more expensive Nexon EV MAX. The Nexon EV Prime will also get Cruise Control functionality.
Tata Motors plans to introduce these new features for existing Tata Nexon EV customers as well. Starting on July 25th, Tata will introduce many software-based features to the existing Tata Nexon EV free of cost. The manufacturer intends to educate existing buyers about the new features via an educational programme to get them up to speed with the new features.
While the software aspect of these new features for existing customers might come free of cost, it is probable that the hardware for the features that would include a switch for controlling regen and cruise control might be chargeable. The fitments would be carried out at a Tata authorised service centre.
In the near future, Tata Motors might introduce new features via software updates, and these could be chargeable.
The Tata Nexon EV Prime powertrain specifications, design and features largely remain unchanged from the outgoing version.
