Xiaomi today announced its 8th-Anniversary Edition Mi 8 flagship smartphone at its Annual Product Launch event held in Shenzhen, China. Alongside, the brand also unveiled the Mi 8 Explorer Edition with an under-display fingerprint scanner and transparent rear panel. But that's not all, the brand also took covers off the toned-down variant of its latest flagship called the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE flaunts a smaller 5.88-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with the notch up top and a 2.5D curved glass on top. The smartphone happens to be the world's first phone to come with Qualcomm's new 7XX series chipset – Snapdragon 710. The newest processor has been built using 10nm fabrication, which is the same as the top-tier Snapdragon 845. The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is being offered in two variants – 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 64GB storage. For security, the smartphone gets a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and the face unlock feature.
Coming to the camera department, the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE sports a 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel snappers at the back. The rear shooters have been equipped with AI features and can recognise from over 206 different scenes. There is a 20-megapixel selfie shooter on the front, which also comes with features like AI Portraits and AI Beauty. The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE boots the latest MIUI 10 based on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. A 3,120mAh battery powers the handset. As for connectivity, the handset comes with 4G LTE, VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and USB Type-C.
The brand has priced the 4GB variant of the Mi 8 SE at RMB 1,799 (~Rs 19,000) and 6GB model at RMB 1,999 (~Rs 21,000). The smartphone is being offered in four hues – Black, Blue, Gold, and Red. However, the availability details of the device haven't been announced yet.
