Earlier in November, Xiaomi launched its much-hyped "Desh ka smartphone" in India in the form of the Redmi 5A (review). The phone was launched in two models in the country – the 2GB RAM version for Rs 4,999 and 3GB variant for Rs 6,999. So far, both variants were available only via Flipkart, Mi.com and Mi Home stores across the country. However, starting today, the company has also started selling the 3GB RAM variant of the Redmi 5A via major brick-and-mortar stores pan India.
The Redmi 5A 3GB model is being offered for Rs 7,499 at offline stores. While the pricing is Rs 500 more than the online price of the phone, it’s worth mentioning that cost of the Xiaomi products via offline stores is usually slightly higher than their prices online.
To recap the specs, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch display, which offers a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels and a dedicated reading mode to reduce eye fatigue. The phone comes encased in a polycarbonate body with a metallic finish, and boots Android Nougat based MIUI 9. Powering the phone is a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, mated to Adreno 308 GPU and 2GB or 3GB of RAM, depending on the variant. The device is available in 16GB and 32GB storage options, supporting microSD cards up to 128GB in size.
The Redmi 5A’s camera department includes a 13-megapixel primary snapper with an LED flash and phase detection autofocus. For selfies, there’s a 5-megapixel secondary shooter on the front with advanced modes like Smart and Pro Beautify. The handset is powered by a 3,000mAh battery, which the brand claims can deliver eight days of standby time. The device is being shipped with a custom charger in India, which supports power surges up to 380V. The phone is available in the country in dark grey, gold and rose gold.
