Rana Mahednra Pratap Garewal (Mukesh Khanna) is a wealthy businessman along with his brother Vishwa (Dalip Tahil). They are both good friends with Brijnath (Paresh Rawal) who is not as wealthy. Rana's younger sister Madhu (Madhuri Dixit) is a good friend of Brijnath's younger brother Raja (Sanjay Kapoor). Seeing this Rana and Birju both arrange for Raja and Madhu to marry when they are older but Rana quickly backs out and insults Birju because of his social status.

Nana Patekar was the original choice for Paresh Rawal's role. He shot for the film but kept interfering with the direction. Indra Kumar got frustrated and told Nana it was best to part ways.

The duet song Nazrein Mili picturised on Madhuri and Sanjay was straight lift from 1966 song Vandhal Ennodu picturised on Jayalalitha from film Naan; a super-hit thriller. The whole tune was copied by Nadeem Shravan for Hindi version. In the movie International Crook, in the scene when Dharmendra and Saira Banu go on honeymoon/boating, the theme music of 'Come September' is playing in background. The same tune can be heard in the intro of the song "Boliyan" by A.S. Kang from the album Kang Fu.
The intro music of the song Ankhiyan Milao was sampled from the intro music of the song "Jewel" from the album Star Crazy by Bally Sagoo.
