IMDbYouth is a rather visually stunning and thought-provoking film directed by famed director Paolo Sorrentino. The movie revolves around two friends, Fred and Mick, who are spending their vacation in a luxurious resort in the Swiss Alps. Fred is a retired composer while Mick is a famous director who is trying to make his one last, legendary film for which he is remembered. The film delves into the themes of aging, love, regrets, and the pursuit of artistic fulfillment. The performances by Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel are outstanding, and the cinematography is breathtaking. The film's soundtrack, composed by David Lang, adds another layer of emotional depth to the already captivating storyline. While the film can be slow-paced at times, it's a captivating and poignant meditation on the complexities of life and the human condition. Overall, this film is a must-watch for those who enjoy thought-provoking and visually stunning films.

After seeing this movie for the first time, Sir Michael Caine wrote writer and director Paolo Sorrentino a letter, saying he was deeply touched, and he described how, during the trip back home in the taxi with his wife, he kept on crying.
Paolo Sorrentino wrote the script with Sir Michael Caine in mind as the main character.
Jane Fonda became interested in the role of Brenda, after friend Al Pacino had told her that the part was "written for you". Another actress had been cast, but dropped out, and so Fonda had her agent secure the role on her behalf.
Sir Michael Caine was given dark-framed glasses to wear "because they would make my hair appear to be whiter."
According to writer and director Paolo Sorrentino, the character of filmmaker Mick (Harvey Keitel) is far from being an autobiographical creation, and is a fairly non-specific filmmaker, "a little bit of Roger Corman, a bit of Sidney Lumet, a bit of William Friedkin."

When Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel are relaxing in the pool and when suddenly a nude Miss Universe appears they react with disbelief but are of course also very agreeable surprised. But according to Michael Caine director Sorrento didn't tell them she was going to appear completely naked. So the surprise on their faces is for real. The scene also made the official movie poster.
"Mick Boyle: You say that emotions are overrated. But that's bullshit. Emotions are all we've got."
"Mick Boyle: [as he shows his protegee the distant Alps through a telescope] You see that mountain over there? Everything seems really close. That's the future. And now... [as he flips the telescope around so it's in fish eye lens] Mick Boyle: ... everything seems really far away. That's the past."
