Android 14 OS was announced at the I/O 2023 conference back in May. However, the OS has yet to officially make its way to Pixel phones. Recent rumours suggested that Android 14 will debut alongside the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Now, the same appears to be confirmed, at least sort of via the Canadian Carrier Telus.

Android 14 release date apparently confirmed

Android 14 update tracker
  • The Canadian carrier Telus has listed the update will seemingly roll out on October 4th, which is the same day as the Pixel 8 lineup’s unveiling.
  • Interestingly, the Pixel 4a is also present in the eligible models list to receive the Android U update when it goes out.
  • Android U is short for Android Upside Down Cake, which is the internal codename for Android 14 OS.
  • The Telus listing appears to be taken down now as Google might have asked the carrier to take it down following various online reports.
  • Since Google hasn’t made any official announcement on the matter, we suggest you take this news with a pinch of salt and wait for more details to be revealed in the next 48 hours.

Android 14 features

  • Magic Compose:  Android 14 brings a new Magic Compose feature that uses AI to air users compose and add more personality to conversations. This will also suggest replies based on the context of the messages and magically change the style of composing.
  • Find My Device: Android 14 updates ‘Find My Device’ and this works with a bigger range of devices from different brands, like headphones, tablets, and more. This will allow users to keep track of the devices.
  • Lock screen customisation: Now, with Android 14, customers can customise the lock screen with new shortcuts and clocks. This will allow users to bring their own inspiration to the devices and customise the lock screen, whichever way they want to.
  • Emoji: There is a new emoji wallpaper feature, which allows users to select up to fourteen different emoji, browse through a range of patterns, and choose a colour scheme to create a personalised wallpaper. The emoji wallpapers are designed to be interactive.
  • Cinematic wallpapers: The cinematic wallpaper feature allows users to transform any photo from their camera roll into a 3D image with motion effects. Users can also use these as a background.
