Kamal Haasan is back on the big screen with his much anticipated Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial, Vikram. While originally planned with superstar Rajinikanth in the lead, Haasan stars in the role of Agent Arun Kumar Vikram in this "spiritual" sequel to the 1986 Vikram. The movie has seen a fair deal of success at the box office and is now available to watch online for Tamil action movie fans. In fact, Vikram is the second film in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, followed by Kaithi in 2019.
This 2021 Arulnithi starrer is a superb psychological thriller that follows the story of a detective who is investigating a series of mysterious events. One of the rare instances where a Tamil mainstream movie has explored themes of memory loss, time travel, and fate. Arulnithi does real justice to his complex lead role. For those who love horror, this brilliant film features an ensemble cast including Nayanthara, Yamuna Chinnadurai, and Vishal. The film is about a team of medical students who are on a night shift at a morgue when strange and frightening things start to happen, leading to a series of terrifying events. Coming back to a run-of-the-mill action thriller, Mahaan is a Karthik Subbaraj directorial that stars Vikram, Simran, Dhruv Vikram, and Bobby Simha in lead roles. It revolves around commerce teacher Gandhi Mahaan and his son Dadabhai Naoroji. The father moves away from family and friends to focus on his liquor business as the son, an extreme Gandhian, commits revenge on his bearer in order to enforce the Gandhian principles of his family that he believes were violated by his father. The film received positive reviews from audiences and critics alike.
With solid reviews from critics across the board, FIR is a Manu Anand directorial that shows the story of Irfan, an ordinary guy with an ordinary life, who must save himself from the evil image created by the media. He must fight back to bring himself back to his unassuming lifestyle. But is it possible that there is more to Irfan than meets the eye? This action thriller will keep you hooked until the end with superstar Vishnu Vishal bringing his acting prowess to the big screen in FIR.
Translating to "Only Bravery Wins", the movie title justifies the plot of this action thriller. With Vishal, Dimple Hayathi, and Baburaj in lead roles, this is notably the last movie of actor-director RNR Manohar. While a box office failure, Veeramae Vaagai Soodum has received good reviews from critics due to its plot about a middle-class man standing up for his rights and questioning the authorities who abuse their powers. Reprising Tamil cinema's love for legal dramas and thrillers, the Etharkkum Thunindhavan is about a righteous lawyer who turns into an executioner to take on the serious issue of woman trafficking plaguing the country.
