The primary goal is to simplify searches, addressing the issue of users getting distracted from their original task when searching for specific information. With the new feature, Google aims to present search results directly within the user’s current app, eliminating the need to navigate away from their ongoing activities.

Here’s a demo of the feature:

As per the company, the launch of Circle to Search feature is scheduled for January 31st.

Circle to Search will be available on specific premium Android smartphones, including the Google Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S24 series, including the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The feature will be accessible in all languages and locations where the mentioned smartphones are available.

What is Google ‘Circle to Search’?

  • The Circle to Search feature enables users to conduct searches on their Android devices through simple screen gestures.
  • Users can initiate searches by circling, highlighting, scribbling, or tapping on images, text, or videos without switching between apps.
  • Search results conveniently appear in a pop-up from the bottom of the screen, offering the answer to the user’s query.
  • For instance, while watching a cat video on Instagram and spotting a cat with a bow tie, users may wonder where to find a similar accessory.
  • By pausing the video and drawing a circle or box around the bow tie, a Google Search drawer promptly displays relevant suggestions without the need to switch apps.

Here are some of the examples that Google has explained for this feature:

  • To identify items in a creator’s “Outfit of the Day” video without tagged brands, activate Circle to Search by long-pressing the home button or navigation bar on your Android phone.
  • Use your preferred gesture, like circling sunglasses or scribbling the bag, to find similar options from various retailers without leaving your current location.
  • Tap on boots or any other item for quick searches. When finished, swipe away to return to your starting point.
  • For more complex questions, such as inquiring about unique toppings on a corn dog seen in a social media image, Circle to Search lets you explore without interruption.

Another feature, multisearch, has been introduced, allowing users to simultaneously search with both text and images. Alongside the most recent AI-powered enhancements, users can now more effortlessly grasp concepts, ideas, or topics by accessing informative content gathered from various sources across the web.
