Samsung surprised the audience at its Galaxy Unpacked event with the announcement of Galaxy Ring. Towards the end of the event, the company teased this new device and we got a glimpse of its design. Although we knew Samsung was working on this tech through a few leaks and rumours, this was the first time we heard of its existence from the brand. Here’s what we know about it.
Samsung Galaxy Ring confirmed
- Dr. Matthew Wiggins, Digital Health, Samsung Research briefly talked about the product. He said the company is bringing Samsung Health to a brand new form factor. He called it a “powerful and accessible” health and wellness device.
- The teaser shows the ring in a silver colour.
- The company didn’t delve into the details or any other information about the Galaxy Ring. However, we know it filed a patent for the device last year.
- Although it may pale in terms of features compared to a smartwatch, a ring could offer essential tracking and longer battery life.
- There may be different sensors on board that would do the health monitoring job. The results are likely to appear on the Samsung Health app. You could perhaps manage the device using the Galaxy Wearable app.
- It could sport ECG, PPG tracking and smart home controls.
- The Galaxy Ring is expected to be more accurate than the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy smartphones in tracking health metrics. This is probably because it stays much closer to the body and for much longer. They could also offer a snuggier fit compared to a watch.
