- Four of the most expensive phones are put through a brutal drop test.
- The lineup includes the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and the Pixel Fold.
- Here’s what happens when you drop these phones from six feet on concrete.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and the Pixel Fold are one of the most expensive phones in the market. These phones also offer the best that you can possibly get from the smartphone industry. But how durable are these phones? To find out, all four phones were put through robot-powered drop tests.
Most expensive drop test
The drop tests were conducted by US-based SquareTrade’s All State Protection Plans that offer coverage for damages to your devices. In a YouTube video, all four phones are dropped from a height of six feet on a concrete sidewalk. Starting with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, when dropped front-down, the display is shattered with raised glass and loose glass. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has the same result when dropped from six feet.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is dropped with the main screen down, and it only gets a few screen dents, minor frame damage and scuffed corners. Its foldable counterpart, the Pixel Fold also gets the same result.
During the back-down drop test, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is yet again shattered with missing glass, and even the camera lenses are cracked. The Galaxy S23 Ultra is also shattered with raised glass and loose glass but the camera lenses aren’t damaged. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is dropped with the cover screen facing down, and this does some damage as the display is shattered with raised glass and missing glass as well. The Pixel Fold suffers the same fate with loose glass and some missing.
Based on these results, only the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Pixel Fold manage to come out with the least damage. But the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Galaxy S23 Ultra are completely shattered from the front and back. Do note that these are scientific drop tests, and such situations might not occur in real-life scenarios. But if you were to drop your expensive phone on concrete, and from as high as six feet, get ready for some damage not just to the device but your pockets as well.
