iPhone 17 refreshed design, new ‘Slim’ model

  • The new iPhone 17 details were shared by Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu in an investor note seen by 9to5Mac
  • According to Pu, the iPhone 17 series will feature four models in total including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Slim, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
  • The iPhone 17, Slim and Pro models will feature an aluminium design that will reportedly be “more complex”. Apple will continue to offer the iPhone 17 Pro Max in titanium but with a smaller Dynamic Island.
  • Only the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a smaller Dynamic Island and this is possible through a new “metalens” technology used for the proximity sensor.
  • As for the iPhone 17 Slim, this model is said to come in a slim design and replace the Plus variant.

In terms of specs, the iPhone 17 will feature a 6.1-inch display, while the ‘Slim’ model will come with a 6.6-inch display, which is slightly smaller than the iPhone 15 Plus. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models will come with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, respectively. The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim are also said to pack 8GB RAM and run the A18 or A19 chip. The Pro models will come with 12GB RAM and an A19 Pro chip, according to the report.

This would be an upgrade over the 6GB RAM and 8GB RAM capacities in the current iPhone 15 lineup. The iPhone 16 series is said to come with 8GB of RAM on all four models. The front camera is also getting an upgrade with 24MP sensors across the entire iPhone 17 lineup. So it’s not just a refreshed design but upgrades in hardware as well for the 2025 iPhone lineup. This might also suggest that the iPhone 16 might not come with major upgrades but it’s too early to come to conclusions.
