Jio remained the leading wireless service provider in the country with 442.49 million subscribers.
Telecom operator Reliance Jio gained the most new customers, with Airtel following closely behind in July, as per a recent report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). On the other hand, both BSNL and Vi faced challenges, losing customers during the same period.
As per the report, Reliance Jio remained the leading wireless service provider in the country with 442.49 million subscribers, followed by Airtel with 244.41 million users. Vi currently has 124.27 million users, while BSNL has 20.87 million.

The regulatory body noted an increase in the number of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) requests. In July, 11.77 million users used MNP to switch their cellular providers.
The report also showed that there are 1,146 million wireless cellular users in India. However, out of this total, 1046.41 million users are considered active. This means that active cellular users make up 91.29 percent of the total user base in India.
According to TRAI, Airtel has the highest ratio of active users to total users, followed by Jio. Interestingly, BSNL and MTNL have a lower percentage of active users, with only 52 percent and 28 percent, respectively, from their total user base.
Reliance Jio has the largest number of wired broadband users in India, apart from being the largest wireless service in the country. As of July 2023, it has a market share of 33.13 percent in the broadband market, with a total number of 9.4 million active users.
Airtel holds the position of being the second-largest wired broadband provider in India, closely following Jio. Airtel broadband has a market share of 25.03 percent with 6.71 million subscribers.
BSNL and MTNL continue to maintain a substantial market share in the wired broadband sector in India, which is notable when compared to their wireless user base. BSNL and MTNL combined contribute to 28.43 percent of wired broadband users in India, with 3.68 million subscribers.
