1. Sacred Games (2018)

One of the first Indian Netflix original series to premiere on the platform, the dark and gritty crime drama focused on Saif Ali Khan’s Sartaj Singh, a cop. After receiving a perplexing phone call from the dreaded gangster Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), Sartaj is sent around the city on an agonising cat-and-mouse chase. Unfortunately, he needs to be quick, before Mumbai is annihilated.

2. The Romantics (2023)

Revisit the many eras of Bollywood romance, moulded by Yash Chopra and later his son Aditya Chopra. 3. The Family Man (2019)

Starring Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role as Shrikant Tiwari, The Family focuses on his life as a senior intelligence officer, trying to balance his dangerous profession and unsteady family life. The first season sees him investigating a potential terror attack. In the second season, he has to battle Tamil Tiger-Esque military resistance from Sri Lanka and how they plan to attain freedom. Season 2 starred Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The makers have already confirmed that there is The Family Man season 3 in the making.

5. Rangbaaz

Set in 90’s Gorakhpur, the crime thriller is based loosely on the real story of Shri Prakash Shukla, an infamous gangster from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The show features Saqib Saleem, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Ranvir Shorey in pivotal roles and has three seasons to its credits.

6. Hostages

Directed by Sudhir Mishra, Hostages is the story of an acclaimed surgeon who needs to operate on a chief minister, but things take a diabolic turn when her family is kidnapped and she is ordered to assassinate the minister instead. The second season follows on the heels of the first season, where a retired cop kidnaps a chief minister for a bone marrow transplant to save his wife’s life.

9. Delhi Crime (2019)

Delhi Crime is a political crime thriller with a couple of seasons. The first season is based on real-life events from the infamous 2012 Delhi gang rape case, in which a young woman was brutally assaulted on a moving bus in the capital city of New Delhi. The series follows the investigation led by Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police Vartika Chaturvedi, as she works to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Gripping watch, which you will easily binge-watch if you are into the genre. The Delhi Crime season 2 is based on the chapter Moon Gazer from former Delhi Police officer Neeraj Kumar’s book Khaki Files, which revolves around the kaccha-baniyan gang of the 1990s.

Based on a true story yet again, Jamtara is a crime thriller that brings the real-life phishing scams rampant in the Indian village of Jamtara in Jharkhand, to the silver screen with drama. The series follows a group of young con artists who run a phishing operation in the village along with the local politicians and police who try to shut them down. You get a fast-paced storyline as politics merges with fraud while a bunch of youngsters are out to make a quick buck.
