MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro launched with 2nm process, dual Prime Cores and deeper AI integration

MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro SoC has officially been launched in China. The latest flagship chipset is the company’s first built on TSMC’s 2nm process and brings upgrades in performance, AI and power efficiency over the Dimensity 9500. The Dimensity 9600 Pro uses MediaTek’s fourth-generation All-Big-Core CPU architecture with a new dual-Prime-Core clocked at up to 4.55Ghz. The chipset also features a new GPU, more advanced image processing capabilities, and deeper AI integration across the platform.

As the first ‘Pro’ model in MediaTek’s flagship SoCs, the chipset brings improvements across the board. You can read all about it in our Dimensity 9600 Pro SoC performance first-look article. To give you an overview, the dual Prime cores on the latest chipset bring roughly an 8 percent improvement over the Dimensity 9500 SoC in terms of clock speed.

The Dimensity 9600 Pro also features a 12-core Mali G2 Ultra NX GPU, with support for hardware-accelerated ray tracing. It also comes with support for the latest LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5 storage for fast data transfer speeds, along with up to 34.5MB of total system cache to improve performance and efficiency.

Additionally, MediaTek’s Native AI Architecture integrates AI processing across the CPU, GPU, ISP and connectivity stack, rather than relying solely on the dedicated NPU. The Dimensity 9600 Pro features a dual-NPU setup comprising the eNPU 2.0 and the 10th-generation Super Performance NPU 1090.

The chipset also introduces native INT4 acceleration for on-device AI workloads, which MediaTek claims reduces the memory and computation resources required for AI models such as Agentic AI and GenAI. The new approach is said to bring up to 51 percent faster LLM performance and 40 percent better power efficiency for on-device AI.

The new flagship SoC is designed to improve gaming performance through its upgraded GPU and Neural Graphics Architecture. MediaTek also claims a 24 percent reduction in power consumption compared to the Dimensity 9500. The chipset supports AI-assisted neural upscaling, hardware-accelerated ray tracing and 4K 240fps slow-motion video recording.

MediaTek has not yet announced the first commercial smartphones that will launch with the Dimensity 9600 Pro. The chipset is expected to feature in several flagship devices in the next generation.
