Google Comet foldable: Pixel Fold 2 or Pixel Flip

The folks at 9to5Google discovered the mention of a Pixel device with the codename Comet in the list of Pixel’s fall lineup.

Pixel 8 series of phones carry dog breeds as their codenames like ‘Shiba’ for Pixel 8,  ‘Husky’ for Pixel 8 Pro, and ‘Akita’ for Pixel 8a. The codename for the Pixel Fold (Gen 1) is Felix, the Pixel 7 is ‘Panther’ and the Pixel 7 Pro ‘Cheetah’. All these are cat breeds. Meanwhile, the Pixel 9 series is expected to feature reptile breeds like ‘Komodo’ and ‘Caiman’ as their codenames.

To know what that is, if you dig deeper into the code hierarchy, you will notice the name is flanked by the number 7 at one place and in the other place, it is linked to a Fold. So, it’s definitely a new foldable phone.

The first-gen Pixel Fold just launched earlier this summer in the month of May, and is available only in select markets as of now. We don’t know much about Google’s product development schedules, but it still seems a little early for the company to be working on the Pixel Fold successor.

However, it may as well be working on something to take on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and other flip-format folding phones. Let’s see. In time, we expect to hear more of what Google’s cooking in its labs.
