The new feature, first spotted by WABetaInfo, is reportedly available to only Android beta testers as of now. WhatsApp has a beta program available on Android through which it tests new features before the official release. Android users can get access to the new feature by updating the WhatsApp beta app to the latest version.

How the new WhatsApp beta feature works

WhatsApp is essentially giving users an easier way to edit contacts without having to leave the app. There is an existing feature that allows users to save contacts from WhatsApp but one would still need to complete the process on their phone’s contacts app; however, the new feature will let users save and edit new contacts straight from WhatsApp. Users also have the option to save the new contact to their phone or Google account.

How to get the new WhatsApp beta feature

WhatsApp is expected to roll out the new feature to all users soon but for now Android users can try it out by downloading the beta app from Google Play Store. Android users who are on the WhatsApp beta program can check if they’ve received the feature by tapping on the “New Contact” option. If the feature is available then users will see more and newer options to save and edit contacts on WhatsApp.

Since this is a test, not all beta users will have access and it could take some time before the feature is rolled out to more users.
