Earlier month, OPPO launched the OPPO F5 (first impressions) in India as its first smartphone to boast an all-screen 18:9 display. Today, the company has expanded its range ofsmartphones with the launch of the OPPO A79 in its home market of China. The phone comes as a slightly downgraded variant of the F5 for consumers in China. The OPPO A79 features exactly the same design as the F5, but gets a slightly smaller battery and a different selfie camera sensor.
Talking about the design first, the OPPO A79 features a premium all-metal unibody build with its antenna bands placed on the edges at the rear. The phone flaunts an almost bezel-free display with 18:9 aspect ratio, almost non-existent bezels on the sides and slim bezels on the top and bottom. The handset features a fingerprint sensor, which is located at its rear, right below the brand’s logo. The device also comes with a facial recognition feature.
Coming to the other features, the OPPO A79 offers a 6.01-inch AMOLED display bearing a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels and a pixel density of 401ppi. The phone is powered by a 2.5GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P23 processor, mated to 4GB of RAM. The storage capacity on board is 64GB, which can be further increased by up to 128GB by inserting a microSD card. Software-wise, it boots ColorOS 3.2, which is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
Coming to the camera specs, the OPPO A79 features a 16-megapixel primary shooter with an aperture of f/1.8 and a 5P lens. For selfies and video calling, the device gets a 16-megapixel snapper with an aperture of f/2.0 and a 5P lens. The connectivity features include dual-SIM slots, 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. The handset is fuelled by a 3,000mAh battery, which supports the brand’s VOOC fast charging technology.
The OPPO A79 has been priced at RMB 2,399 (~Rs 23,500), and will go on sale in China on December 1st. The phone will be available in three hues – black, champagne gold and blue.
