OPPO Find X9 could launch in India at a higher price but does it bring major upgrades?

According to tipster Abhishek Yadav, the base variant of the OPPO Find X9 with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage will be priced at Rs 74,999 in India. This marks a Rs 5,000 increase over the Find X8, which debuted at Rs 69,999 for the same configuration. With this potential price hike, the Find X9 would position itself closer to premium flagships like the iPhone 17 (Rs 82,999) and Google Pixel 10 (Rs 79,999), indicating OPPO’s intent to elevate the Find X series into a more premium segment of the Android flagship space.

As for the Find X9 Pro, the starting price would be unchanged from last year’s Find X8 Pro, which launched at Rs 99,999 for the sole 16GB + 512GB variant.

If OPPO maintains the same pricing, it would be a straightforward continuation of the series. However, any price hike for the vanilla Find X9 would need to be backed by meaningful upgrades and clear value additions to justify the increase.

If we consider just the specifications, then the OPPO Find X9 features an upgraded MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset, compared to the Find X8’s Dimensity 9400. The new chipset is said to offer increased cache sizes for accelerated performance and improved power efficiency. It’s also designed to deliver 32 percent faster single-core performance, and up to 55 percent improved ultra-core peak power efficiency. The Find X8 was an excellent performer, leading benchmarks and real-world use with great thermal efficiency. With improved performance claims, the Find X9 is expected to be a frontrunner again.

You’re getting the same somewhat compact 6.59-inch FHD+ (2760 x 1256 pixels) display with the Find X9, along with a 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 7i. One difference, or rather downgrade, is the peak brightness level, which caps at 3,600 nits for the Find X9. In comparison, the Find X8 offered 4,500 nits of peak brightness. Whether this results in any major difference is something we’ll find out in our review later.

In terms of optics, you get the same 50MP triple-camera setup at the rear, and a 32MP front camera for selfies. The main camera sensor has been upgraded, but most of the specs remain the same, including 3x optical zoom and 120x digital zoom. But there are some upgrades, such as the ‘True Color Camera’, which is said to deliver more accurate colour reproduction even in the most difficult lighting. Then there’s OPPO’s LUMO Image Engine, which uses computational photography algorithms to enhance clarity, dynamic range, and colour science in different lighting scenarios. These upgrades should result in better photography with the Find X9.

The battery capacity has seen a major bump from 5,630mAh on the Find X8 to 7,025mAh on the Find X9. We were already impressed with the Find X8’s battery life, which lasted over a day on regular usage, so we should get similar or better results from its successor. Charging speeds remain the same on both phones, with 80W for wired and 50W for wireless.

In conclusion, there are notable upgrades in the Find X9 when compared to the Find X8. And these are in key areas like the battery, cameras, and performance. But whether these upgrades would justify the price increase (if the tip is legit) is something we can’t comment on just yet. The OPPO Find X9 would also have newer flagships to compete with, like the OnePlus 15 and Xiaomi 17, so pricing can play a key role here. That said, the Find X9 is one flagship to look forward to and wait for if you’re planning to buy a premium phone soon.
