Highlights
  • The Realme GT 8 Pro is launching on November 20th in India.

  • The Realme GT 8 Pro is coming with Ricoh-tuned optics.

Realme’s outgoing flagship, the Realme GT 7 Pro, is available at a discounted price days ahead of the impending launch of the GT 8 Pro in India. The GT 7 Pro launched last year at Rs 59,999, and is currently listed on Flipkart for Rs 44,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant. That’s a huge discount of Rs 15,000, and bank offers bring the price down even further. The timing is strategic as Realme is clearing shelves for the GT 8 Pro, which will be unveiled on November 20th. So is it worth buying the older model, or does it make sense to hold off and get the new one?

The outgoing Realme GT 7 Pro packs a 6.78-inch 1.5K LTPO Eco2 OLED Plus 3D display with thin bezels, a 120Hz refresh rate and an impressive 6,500 nits peak brightness. It’s sharp, vibrant, and bright enough to be seen outdoors. The upcoming GT 8 Pro promises a meaningful upgrade with a 6.79-inch 2K AMOLED display, a smoother refresh rate of 144Hz and even higher brightness, at around 7,000 nits. If you care about having cutting-edge display, the newer model will be the better choice.

Powering the GT 7 Pro is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Our review notes daily use, gaming, and multitasking are effortless on the phone, which runs Android 15-based Realme UI 6.0. The GT 8 Pro, on the other hand, comes with the more recent Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, also built on 3nm architecture but one that should bring increased efficiency and thermal control. This could lead to better performance in prolonged gaming and AI-based image processing. The difference will be there if you push your phone hard, but otherwise, the GT 7 Pro already feels fast.

The triple camera setup on the Realme GT 7 Pro comprises a 50MP main sensor with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP periscope telephoto that supports 3x optical and up to 120x digital zoom. It’s a well-rounded system that performs reliably in daylight and decently in low light, as per our review. For the GT 8 Pro, Realme is partnering with Ricoh, the Japanese camera company known for its precision optics. This partnership brings a Ricoh-tuned 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a massive 200 MP telephoto sensor. That’s a major upgrade on paper, and if executed well, could put Realme’s new flagship closer to the imaging quality of premium rivals from Samsung, OPPO and Vivo.

Battery life is one of those aspects where another huge difference lies. The GT 7 Pro comes with a 5,800mAh battery with support for 120W fast charging. The GT 8 Pro comes with a massive 7,000mAh battery, retaining the same charging speed. While battery life was one of the plus points in our review of the GT 7 Pro, the newer flagship is expected to take things up a notch.

The GT 7 Pro makes sense if you want flagship-grade performance at a lesser price. It’s powerful with an excellent display and capable camera system, now at a mid-range price. For anyone upgrading from a two or three-year-old phone, it’s a good buy, especially with the discount. The device is guaranteed three years of major OS updates and four years of security patches, making it relevant through 2028.

If you’re the type to keep a phone for several years and want the latest processor, better camera optics, battery and improved display, it’s worth waiting for the GT 8 Pro. That could provide a genuine step up rather than just minor refinements with the Ricoh-tuned cameras and the Gen 5 chip. The GT 7 Pro, meanwhile, is now one of the best-valued flagships you can buy under Rs 45,000. This discount does make it tempting, but if photography and future-proofing matter more, the GT 8 Pro will likely justify the wait, albeit at a heavier price, as the phone will be priced for the flagship segment.
