Redmi K30 could launch in India under POCO brand. Here’s why

“Redmi K30 could launch in India as a POCO phone, perhaps the POCO F2 Lite that’s rumoured to feature Snapdragon 765G”

Xiaomi launched the Redmi K30 5G smartphone in China in December. So far, the company is yet to launch the smartphone in India but as it turns out, the Redmi K30 might not launch in India at all – at least as part of the Redmi brand. Instead, it may launch in India as the rumoured POCO F2 Lite! This would be an unexpected turn of sorts for those who have been waiting eagerly for the dual-punch hole touting device with 120Hz refresh rate.

Redmi K30 might be rebranded as POCO F2 Lite in India

Poco f2 lite bis

A little while ago, we spotted a new POCO smartphone with the model number M1912G7BI on the BIS certification website. Just in case you are unaware, the same model number was earlier listed in the Redmi smartphones catalogue on the BIS website. The Redmi K30 smartphone has the model number M1912G7BC in China, and the last character (‘C’) usually resonates to the country the device is launched in. Taking that into account, the M1912G7BI was initially supposed to be the Redmi K30 smartphone for the Indian market. That, however, does not appear to be the case as it has now been moved to the POCO section.

Mapping this new development with the previous leak that suggested that the POCO F2 Lite would be powered with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, it leads to speculation that Redmi K30 could be rebranded to POCO F2 Lite. Of course, POCO will have to drop 5G compatibility since the high-speed network is not going to be available in India in 2020 this year at least, and perhaps even next year. Conversely, dropping 5G would help the company lower the price. All of this, however, is based on the data that we have received from the certification website and has not been confirmed by the company, so you might as well take it with a pinch of salt for now.

Just in case you are unaware, Xiaomi has officially announced that POCO would henceforth be an independent brand in India and there would be several smartphones under the series launching in 2020.
