Worldwide smartphone shipments have declined in the third consecutive quarter.
Below Samsung is Apple in the second position with an 18 percent market share and total shipments of 56.6 million units between January and March this year. However, Apple shipments grew by 2.2 percent YoY compared to the same quarter last year.
Samsung and Apple have grabbed the top two spots in the worldwide smartphone market share with 23.4 percent and 18 percent, respectively. Below them are Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo. Xiaomi has captured a 12.7 percent market with 39.9 million shipments while OPPO shipped 27.4 million units for an 8.7 percent market share. Vivo has a market share of 8.1 percent with 25.3 million shipments.
However, much like Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo have also witnessed a decline in shipments when compared to YoY data. Vivo has seen a massive decline of 27.7 percent, followed by OPPO with a 26.8 percent drop, and Xiaomi with a 17.8 percent decline. IDC report says the companies are struggling because of the supply chain issues for core components required for making smartphones. This is in addition to the reduced consumer demand owing to the present current economic condition and inflation.
As for the worldwide smartphone shipments, there is a decline of 8.9 percent YoY in Q1 2022. This is the third consecutive quarter of decline for the smartphone market as shipments fell to 314.1 million units in the quarter.
