Spotify has been planning to launch high fidelity (HiFi) audio for quite some time but it hasn’t seen light of the day yet. Spotify HiFi audio

HiFi audio, in simple terms, is high quality audio since there’s better reproduction of sound and very little distortion in the audio signal. This then results in high quality audio which is something you’d hear through a CD. The new Spotify plan is said to be its most expensive yet, and it’s expected to include a HiFi feature, according to a report by Bloomberg. It’s dubbed ‘Supremium’ internally, and Spotify plans to launch it in non-US markets first. We expect it to release in India too.

Spotify announced in 2021 that it would introduce HiFi audio streaming soon but the launch has been delayed. There’s no word on when the new Spotify plan will launch but it’s expected to be available soon.

Spotify plans price

The report also doesn’t say how much Spotify would price this new plan. In India, Spotify is available at Rs 99 per month. There are other plans and bite-sized ones as well which offer ad-free listening to users. It’s interesting to see though how Spotify plans to market this since its rivals Apple Music and Amazon Music already offer hi-res audio with their current plans.

Apple Music also offers lossless audio that comes with its regular subscription plan starting at Rs 195 per month. But the library for tracks with lossless audio on Apple Music is slightly limited. Amazon Music also offers hi-res audio streaming, and in India it’s available with the Amazon Prime membership. There are other apps like Tidal offers only HiFi audio but the music streaming service is available only in select countries.
