WhatsApp introduced ‘Chat Lock’ feature in May this year. As the name suggests, this feature lets you lock certain chats in a secure folder that only you can access. WhatsApp is now working on a new ‘secret code’ feature that will add another layer of security to your locked chats. This feature is currently in testing, and not available to beta testers yet.
WhatsApp secret code for locked chats
WhatsApp’s secret code will essentially let you create a custom password for your locked chats. This secret code first spotted by WABetaInfo, will help in locating the locked chats by typing it in the search bar. So you can type in the secret code and find the locked chat in the search bar or on your companion device as well. You can use a word or emoji as the custom password for your locked chats.
With this custom password, you will be able to create and use a different one from your phone’s. WhatsApp already provides app lock with your fingerprint, face unlock or PIN. With Chat Lock you can hide and keep personal chats secure, and a custom password will not only add another layer of security but help you search for it easily too.
WhatsApp had already revealed plans for working on this feature when it first launched Chat Lock. It is also working on adding Chat Lock to companion devices. For now this feature is in testing, and not available even to beta testers yet. But WhatsApp is expected to roll it out to everyone soon.
For those unaware, WhatsApp lets you lock chats and keep them hidden from your chat list. You can do this by opening a chat on WhatsApp, selecting the chat info, and scrolling down to find the ‘Chat Lock’ option. Once you lock it, you’ll see a folder on top of your chat list with your locked chats. This folder will be locked, and can open only with your face, fingerprint or PIN.
