The fact that films concerning students' life and their time in school typically include sentimental moments makes them entertaining in many cases. Rajmohan Aarumugam's first movie as a filmmaker, Baba Black Sheep, makes a valiant effort to be that kind of movie, but the emotional scenes in the second half don't fully draw us into the world of the characters, and the humorous elements dominate it. The honorable performances by Ayaz, NP, and Ammu Abirami maintain our interest. The pre-climax segment's staging of various scenes is intriguing, and it was a pretty smart move to pass off the suicidal man as a joker. The closing credits are another enjoyable section. The director deserves praise for tackling a topic, student suicidal tendencies, that hasn't gotten much attention from the wider public. We are unable to relate to the movie's characters who fight against these inclinations since they don't receive enough screen time.
