Angie Dickinson (Kate Miller) said the scene where her character gets seduced in the back of a taxicab was filmed on-location in New York City, where several gawkers observed the scene and shouted, "Right on, Police Woman!" (referring to her previous television role).
As a young man, at his mother's urging, Brian De Palma followed his father and used recording equipment to try and catch him with another woman. That incident inspired this movie.
Writer and director Brian De Palma specifically wrote the role of Liz Blake for his then-wife Nancy Allen to play. She was the first and only actress to whom he offered her role.
In the Kate Miller (Angie Dickinson) shower scene, a body double was used. When the movie first came out, the producers encouraged the then 48-year-old Dickinson to claim the body was hers. However, it soon came out that it was actually Victoria Johnson.
This movie was originally rated X by the MPAA. Writer and director Brian De Palma fought the rating and eventually they brought this down to an R.
"Liz Blake: Do you want to fuck me? Doctor Robert Elliott: Oh, yes. Liz Blake: Then why don't you? Doctor Robert Elliott: Because I'm a doctor and... Liz Blake: Fucked a lot of doctors. Doctor Robert Elliott: ...and I'm married. Liz Blake: Fucked a lot of them, too."
"Doctor Robert Elliott: Doctor, I am not paranoid. Bobbi was making threats over the phone. She said she's going to hurt me. My patient was slashed to death. And now my razor is gone. Now you don't have to be a detective to figure it out, do you?"
