The Strays Review

The Strays is a British attempt at horror thriller films, with the plot of what happens when the lifestyle of a privileged biracial woman is disturbed by her troubled past. But the biggest problem with the movie is that writer-director Nathaniel Marello-White does not do justice to the lead protagonist. Horror movies are all about setting context before getting into the scares and thrill. But The Strays fails in doing that, instead rushing into the meat of the screenplay. Yes, there is a ton of suspense in the film, which the director is pretty good at, but the problem is that this suspense is not enough to keep you engaged until the climax. It fizzles out much before that happens. That said, not providing back story is the main issue at the centre of this film, and really brings down what could have been a superb film to binge on.
