TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Contrary to what is portrayed in the film, the real infiltrates did plan on starting the protest while the Miss World candidates were on stage. However, it was Bob Hope's misogynistic jokes that made them change their plans and start throwing their flour bombs at that very moment.

The film never mentions this, but Sally Alexander's ex-husband was the actor John Thaw. Her daughter Abi grew up to be the well-known actress Abigail Thaw, famous for her role as Dorothea Frazil in the long-running "Endeavour" series.

The "Miss World 1961" mentioned so scathingly by Dolores Hope was the Welsh-born Rosemarie Frankland, whom Bob Hope described at the 1961 competition as the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. He actively tried to promote a Hollywood career for her by casting her in a fairly large supporting role in his 1965 comedy "I'll Take Sweden", but she proved not to have any acting ability and it was her last film. (She had earlier had a few tiny walk-on roles in British films). For a time, she was referred to as a "personal assistant" to Hope; it seems highly likely that she was, as "Misbehaviour" implies, his mistress, although he was forty years her senior. She had two unsuccessful marriages and died in 2000, aged 57.

During the recordings, Miss Sweden is introduced as Marjorie Johansson but her first name is Maj. Marjorie was the name of the girl Sally was discussing with, when she was being interviewed at the BBC.

The scenes outside the Princess Hotel show the Keith Park memorial on Waterloo Place. However this was not erected until 2010.

Popular Dialogues

"Sally Alexander: [speaking on TV about The Miss World Competition] The only other forum in which participants are weighed, measured and publicly examined before being assigned their value is a cattle market."

"Professor Davidson: [at the university interview] So, history, why have we never had a revolution in Britain? Sally Alexander: The civil war was was won by the rebels, but even then the new order only lasted a generation. So, surely, the real question is: Why have all our revolutions failed?"
