No Mini LED display on 12.9-inch iPad Air

  • Last week, it was reported that the 12.9-inch iPad Air will feature a Mini LED display. This would be a major upgrade from the LCD screens on the iPad Air lineup.
  • The leak came from Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, who is now saying that the 12.9-inch iPad Air will stick to the LCD screen like the previous models.
  • The reason behind Apple choosing not to do so is due to the high cost of the Mini LED displays.
  • Young adds that Apple will still launch a 12.9-inch iPad Air with Mini LED sometime later this year around October. This model might fit in the iPad Air lineup or join the Pro series as well.

12.9-inch iPad Air: what we know so far

This is the first time the iPad Air lineup is getting a 12.9-inch model. It would be the biggest iPad Air so far. Only the iPad Pro lineup has a 12.9-inch model. The 12.9-inch iPad Air will most likely feature the Touch ID button on top with the speaker grilles located on the top and bottom as well.

Joining the iPad Mini are reportedly two new iPad Pro models with OLED displays. OLED displays instead of mini-LED are said to make the iPads slimmer. The 2024 iPad Pro models are also tipped to feature a landscape-oriented Face ID camera.

The new iPad models are expected to launch in India at the same time. Two iPad models with model numbers A2836 and A2837 presumably the iPad Air and Pro were recently spotted on the BIS certification website. This suggests the new iPad models are coming to India soon.
