Jio and Airtel are yet to announce their respective 5G plans in India. Currently, subscribers can continue to use their existing 4G recharge plans to experience 5G on their compatible smartphones, in this case, iPhones. While Airtel users can start using 5G right away provided they are in a 5G-enabled city, Jio users on the other hand are first required to enrol in the Welcome Offer and recharge their mobile number with Rs 239 or above recharge plans. Applying for the Welcome Offer can be done through the MyJio app.

As for the 5G speed, Airtel promises to deliver 20 to 30 times higher speeds than its 4G network. Jio, in contrast, claims 1Gbps+ download speed on its newly built standalone 5G network.

How to check if your area/ locality has 5G service?

If you are an Airtel user, download the Airtel Thanks app. The app has an option called ‘Check if your phone is 5G enabled’. Click on it, to know the availability of Airtel 5G services in your area.

Otherwise, Airtel and Jio users can download SpeedTest app by Ookla on their mobile phones. The app has a ‘Map’ feature that tells you where the 5G services are currently available.

Which cities have 5G services?

Airtel has rolled out its 5G Plus services in a handful of cities, including Delhi, Gurugram, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur, Varanasi, Guwahati, Patna, and Pune. On the other hand, Jio True 5G has started rolling out in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kolkata, Varanasi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Gujarat, Pune, and Nathdwara, Rajasthan

As for Vi, the telco is yet to release its 5G services in the country.
