8 best electric cars launched and showcased during Auto Expo 2023

Being one of a kind event, the Auto Expo 2023 saw manufacturers from all around the globe mark their presence to display and unveil their upcoming cars for the Indian market. For this edition of the Auto Expo, the major attraction points of the event were the newly announced electric vehicles (EVs) from the likes of Tata, Hyundai, and Maruti Suzuki among many others. In this article, let’s take look at some of the best electric cars that were launched and showcased during the Auto Expo 2023.

Tata Harrier EV

Tata went ahead and showcased the Tata Harrier EV concept car at the Auto Expo 2023. While the specifications have not been revealed, the attendees got a first glimpse at the design of the vehicle. Speaking of which, even though the Harrier EV retains most of the design elements from the ICE variant, several changes have been made to give it a modern look. For instance, the front grille has been completely blocked while slight alterations have been made to the LEDs. Moving to the rear, the EV gets a new edgy design with a large light bar that connects the LED tail lamps along with a resurfaced bumper. The Tata Harrier EV is likely to launch in 2024 and is tipped to feature a dual-motor setup.

Besides the Harrier EV, Tata also took the wraps off of the Tata Sierra EV SUV concept at India’s biggest car show. The car was previously showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo and since then, major developments have been made in terms of the exterior design. The vehicle features a clean front fascia with a thin LED light bar, while the rear has a simple and classy design with a bulky bumper. The alloy wheel’s arches’ come with an appealing dual-tone finish.

Maruti Suzuki eVX

Maruti Suzuki unveiled its first-ever EV in the form of an SUV concept called eVX. The vehicle sports a futuristic yet minimal design language and is said to come with a 60kWh battery pack that is aided by a ‘safe battery technology’, as the car manufacturer calls it. The eVX is claimed to deliver a range of up to 550km on a full charge. Apart from that, the company has revealed that they are planning to bring the EV to the market by 2025 and upon launch, it will compete with the likes of Mahindra XUV400 and Tata Nexon EV.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is another electric car that made its appearance at the Auto Expo 2023. While the EV has been launched globally in certain markets, Hyundai might not bring the Ioniq 6 to India any time soon, especially since the Ioniq 5 has just made its debut in the country. That said, the vehicle comes in two different drivetrain options – one with a single motor and another with a dual motor and accordingly the claimed ranges offered are 547km and 500km respectively. The international variant of the Ioniq 6 can provide top speeds of 185km/h and goes from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.1 seconds. With a 53kWh battery and ultra-fast charging technology in tow, the EV can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 18 minutes.

Kia EV9

Kia India presented its all-electric concept SUV called EV9 during the 16th edition of Auto Expo. With the EV6 as the current sole offering in Kia’s portfolio, the EV9 will further strengthen the brand’s presence in the electric car market. As for the powertrain, the EV9 is developed on the E-GMP architecture which will aid in achieving a claimed range of 483km. Once the battery is fully discharged, a 350kW charger juices up the battery from 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes. As for the interiors, the EV9 boasts a large 27-inch single-panel screen along with an extremely minimal two-layered dashboard. 

BYD Atto 3

BYD Atto 3 is a compact electric SUV that has been recently launched in India at a price of Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom). While interested buyers can pre-book the vehicle for Rs 50,000 and expect deliveries in January 2023, BYD presented a limited edition of the Atto 3 in an exclusive Forest Green shade at the Auto Expo 2023. The EV is powered by a 60.48kWh battery pack that offers an ARAI-certified range of around 521km. With its magnet synchronous electric motor, the Atto 3 can go from 0 to 100kmph in just 7.3 seconds. On the inside, it comes equipped with a modest 12.8-inch screen with support for both, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

BYD Seal EV

The BYD Seal is a premium electric sedan that is expected to launch in the Indian market by Diwali 2023. The Chinese automaker also revealed some key details related to the car’s powertrain which includes a dual electric motor that can offer a combined horsepower of 523bhp and take the EV from 0 to 100kmph in just 3.8 seconds. Besides that, the BYD Seal could come in two battery options of 61.4kWh and 82.5kWh with claimed ranges of 550km and 700km respectively. As for the features, the vehicle gets a large 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system along with a premium material finish throughout the cabin.

MG4 EV

MG4 EV

MG showcased its premium electric hatchback MG4 EV at the event. The vehicle could compete with the likes of BYD Atto 3 and the forthcoming Hyundai Kona Electric in India when it officially launches sometime in the future. As of now, there is no information given by the company on when it will be unveiled in the country. The MG4 EV comes in two different battery pack variants, one with a 51kWh capacity and another with a 64kWh capacity. While the former variant is capable of delivering ranges of up to 350km the latter can provide 452km of claimed range. As for the design, the MG4 EV features a sporty-looking appearance with sheer surfaces and crisp lines.
