Apple dominates smartphone sales globally, iPhone 15 Pro Max takes the top spot: Counterpoint report

iPhone 15 Pro Max world’s best-selling smartphone 

• iPhone 15 Pro Max took the top spot with a 4.4 percent market share in Q1 this year, according to the Counterpoint data. 
• This is also the first time the Pro Max variant took the top spot during Apple’s non-seasonal quarter. Counterpoint says that this reflects the increasing trend of consumers going for high-end smartphones. 
• Notably, the Pro Max variant achieved the top position for the first time in Apple’s non-seasonal quarter, reflecting an increasing trend of consumer preference for high-end smartphones.
• The Pro models of the iPhone 15 series have become its most popular by capturing over 60 percent of its sales in Q1 2024. 

As seen in the chart above, the iPhone 15 grabbed the second spot with the iPhone 15 Pro coming third. Surprisingly, the iPhone 14 turned out to be the fourth best-selling phone, and the iPhone 15 Plus also made it to the list at number eight. In the same quarter last year, the iPhone 14 was the best-selling phone globally. 

Coming to Apple’s biggest rival, Samsung, the Galaxy S24 Ultra managed to take the fifth spot with the Galaxy S24 sitting in the ninth spot. 

The strong performance of the S24 series can be attributed to Samsung’s early refresh of the series, and its efforts in generative AI (GenAI) technology. The S24 series was the first to reach the market with GenAI features and capabilities, allowing users to create unique content and experience a new level of interaction with their smartphones.

Following the Ultra model are the Galaxy A15 5G and Galaxy A54 in sixth and seventh spots. The Galaxy A34 closed the ranking with the 10th spot overall. All these phones launched this year except for the Galaxy A15 but this one’s recent too as it was released in late December 2023.
