Apple could refresh three of its iPad lineups tomorrow, i.e., October 17th. A recent report tells us this could be a soft launch through press releases. The expected iPad refreshes are for the iPad Air, iPad mini and the entry-level iPad series. They could get new processors and upgraded hardware, while their designs are largely expected to stay the same. However, we are also hearing conflicting reports that say there will be no new iPads anytime soon.
New Apple iPad launch details
As per Supercharged.com, refreshed iPad models will be announced on Tuesday, October 17th via media releases.
- iPad Air: This one could be upgraded to an Apple M2 processor. Its current iPad Air model has an M1 SoC.
- iPad mini: The new iPad mini could get a spec bump to Apple’s A16 Bionic SoC and it is also speculated to get a new display controller to fix the jelly scrolling issue present on the current-gen iPad mini.
- iPad 11th gen: Apple could power the 11th generation iPad with the A16 Bionic chipset. That would be a leap over the prevailing A14 Bionic processor powering the 10th-generation iPad.
However, trusted Apple insider Mark Gurman from Bloomberg refutes this piece of news. He says, “It won’t happen this month”.
In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, he claims the aforementioned iPads are in development and won’t have an imminent release.
This is something remarked by Apple analyst Ming Chi-Kuo who said last month that “new iPad models are unlikely before the year’s end”.
Essentially, Apple could announce new iPads by the end of the year or early next year, but they are unlikely to go official tomorrow.
