Google is seemingly set to launch a new tablet — the same one that it had teased back during the launch of the Pixel 7 series of smartphones. Called the Google Pixel Tablet, the device could be unveiled at the upcoming developer conference, Google I/O 2023, which is scheduled to be held on May 10th. Now, ahead of its purported launch, a new certification of the device, identified through its internal codename GTU8P, has appeared on the platform of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) — revealing a slim number of details about it.

What the Google Pixel Tablet may offer

The latest FCC certification does not reveal a whole lot about the upcoming tablet, except for suggesting that the device is actually close to its commercial launch date. Key details mentioned in the certification suggest that the tablet will support Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth LE and Ultra Wideband (UWB) connectivity — with the latter being particularly interesting. UWB connectivity on devices can enable a host of near-range connectivity and data transfer, suggesting that Google may enable a range of accessories and use cases based on UWB support on the Google Pixel Tablet.

Other key details include the support for a charging dock, which will seemingly turn the Google Pixel Tablet into a Google Nest smart speaker. This capability was detailed previously as well by Google itself, with the recent FCC certification suggesting that the charging dock will support 30W fast charging setup — with the tablet itself support 18W fast charging.

Expected specifications

So far, the Google Pixel Tablet has been teased multiple times by the company — first at I/O 2022, and subsequently at its hardware launch event in October last year. The device also surfaced as part of a pre-launch test in India, revealing specifications such as the custom Tensor G2 processor, an 11-inch display, 256GB internal storage, and uniform bezels. The charging dock, meanwhile, will offer an integrated speaker, and can turn the tablet into a smart home hub when connected.
