Ready to doomscroll on the big screen? Instagram Reels arrive on Apple TV

Highlights
  • Instagram is now available on Apple TV.
  • The app lets you watch Reels, longer videos, and live shows.
  • This is the fourth TV platform for Instagram.

Instagram wants more people to watch Reels on the big screen. A new Instagram app is now available on Apple TV. This gives users another option to watch Instagram Reels, longer videos, and shows on a bigger screen through Apple TV. This isn’t the first, though, as Instagram launched the first TV app on Amazon Fire TV devices last year, and expanded Instagram for TV to Samsung TVs across the US. With this launch, Instagram is expanding support on more TV platforms and thereby more users.

Instagram app on Apple TV

First spotted by MacRumors, the Instagram app is said to have launched on Apple TV on October 23rd. The app lets you watch Instagram Reels, watch longer videos with friends, and watch live shows, all on your TV. Instagram even provides cross-device support, as you can pick up where you left off on another screen. This is if your Instagram account is connected on your Apple TV, iPhone, or iPad.

Based on the app images, the Instagram app on Apple TV shows the home feed, Explore section, saved posts, and profile. You can also view Instagram Stories on Apple TV. With this latest launch, Meta has also added more features to the Instagram TV app by adding support for longer videos and live shows. The TV app was earlier restricted to watching only Reels.

With the latest app, Instagram has expanded its presence on more TVs. However, it’s not clear if the app is available to Apple TV users globally or only in the US. While a welcome addition, the lack of global availability at launch feels like a missed opportunity for Meta to truly dominate the big-screen social experience for people who like that. So far, Instagram has launched on the Fire TV app, Google TV, and Samsung TV, but only for users in the US.
