iPhone 15 speaker issue details
iPhone 15 users have been complaining about hearing a crackling sound when the volume of calls on the speaker is high or when you’re playing music above 80 per cent volume. The issue was shared on Reddit by an iPhone 15 Pro Max user who said it sounded like a “liquid-damaged blown speaker at high volumes”. This user even got the unit replaced but the new one had the same issue, and even worse.
If we read through the comments on this Reddit post, we find several other iPhone 15 Pro Max users complaining about similar issues. The issue also seems to be affecting iPhone 15 Plus users as well, as per one reply. One user came up with this theory that the crackling sound could be due to the tiny earpiece speaker opening on the iPhone 15 models. Since the opening is too small for adequate airflow, the crackling sound appears when the volume is high.
It looks like the issue isn’t isolated, and it is indeed affecting quite a lot of iPhone 15 users. And this too on freshly purchased units from Apple. Whatever the reason behind it, you wouldn’t want your iPhone 15 to hear sounds like what you normally do from cheap speakers.
As for the issue, Apple hasn’t formally acknowledged it yet but it’s expected to issue a fix through a software update. It’s also not clear if this is a hardware issue for the iPhone 15 models. Apple just released the iOS 17.0.3 update that comes with a fix for the iPhone 15 Pro’s overheating issues.
