Jio’s first-ever laptop JioBook is now official in India. The company took the wraps of the machine at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022. With this laptop, the Indian conglomerate aims to replace the Android tablets in the market and provide people with a true laptop experience for a productive output. The laptop is also said to be one of a kind since it comes with the support for 4G connectivity. Just like the JioPhone Next, the JioBook runs on custom-made software called ‘JioOS’ with tailormade applications preinstalled just for the laptop. JioBook laptop was quietly launched in India IMC 2022, which was held at New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan from October 1st-4th. The laptop was then listed on the government’s e-commerce platform. The latter revealed the Jio Book laptop’s price in India and specifications. Additionally, the laptops are said to be locally manufactured in India by a company called Flex which further reduces the costs by a large margin.

According to the Reuters, Jio initially plans on delivering the first few batches of JioBooks to its enterprise customers such as schools and government institutions starting from October itself. As for other consumers and individuals, the launch is rumoured to take plan within the next three months. Subsequently, one of the sources in close touch with the JioBook launch claims Jio aims to sell “hundreds of thousands” of units by the end of March next year.

The JioBook laptop is priced in India at Rs 19,500, per the Government’s e-commerce website. Only 10 units are available and regular users can’t buy them just yet. The device seems to be reserved for government department employees only for now. However, rumours are rife that the company might launch the Jio Book laptop for everyone later this year with price under Rs 15,000.

The JioBook laptop has surfaced on the internet on several occasions in the past. From all the official and unofficial images, we can ascertain the design of JioBook to be like any other budget and price-friendly laptop on the market. Fortunately, the listing on the government’s marketplace has revealed some significant design information pertaining to the laptop. It states the form factor to be ‘standard’ with the chassis made out of ABS plastic material along with metallic hinges. The laptop will also come with chunky bezels around the screen, chiclet keyboard, and a large trackpad. As for the colours, the JioBook will come in a dark blue shade with no information on other colours.

As for the specifications, the JioBook rocks a 11.6-inch HD+ (1366 x 768p) non-touch display made out of backlit antiglare technology. The machine sports 720p resolution webcam in the centre above the screen. Powering up the laptop is the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset that can be found on several midrange phones. This particular SoC is based on 11 nm architecture with Adreno 610 GPU and is aided by an LPDDR4X 2GB RAM with 32GB eMMC-based internal storage. The JioBook laptop is said to get its juice from a Li-ion 55.1 – 60 AH capacity battery with a runtime of 6 to 8 hours. Apart from this, just like the custom software for JioPhone, Reliance has developed JioOS in partnership with Microsoft for the JioBook.

What’s interesting; however, is that this affordable Jio laptop will support all sorts of connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and even 4G along with a dedicated MicroSD card slot. The 4G connectivity will most likely remain locked to Jio.
