These affordable MacBooks will reportedly compete with Google's Chromebooks.
Apple is reportedly working on an affordable series of MacBooks. The new low-cost lineup of MacBooks is said to compete with Google's Chromebooks that are known for their affordability, especially for students. Apple plans to launch the low-cost MacBooks sometime around the second half of 2024.
The DigiTimes report also highlights how popular Google's Chromebooks have been in terms of shipments with 33.5 million units shipped in 2021. Google offers its own Chromebooks with the Pixelbook series but it also partners with other OEMs including Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo.
Chromebooks are essentially affordable laptops that run on ChromeOS with access to the Google Play Store, and all Google apps. In India, you can get Chromebooks even below Rs 20,000. It's interesting how Apple plans to price its affordable MacBooks but knowing the company we shouldn't expect a very low number.
Apple has been quite flexible in its offerings especially in the iPhone department. It has launched the 'SE' model for those who want affordable iPhones. Apple also launched the iPhone XR, which was quite a hit in India.
