Mahindra will soon launch the all-electric version of the popular Mahindra XUV700 SUV and now a leaked design patent confirms the exterior styling on the close-to-production model. The all-electric SUV has been christened the Mahindra XUV e8 and will largely resemble its ICE-powered counterpart. However, as the leaked image suggests, the Mahindra XUV e8 will attract most of the design cues unique to the concept which was shown at the company’s August event last year.

Mahindra XUV e8 to follow most design cues from the concept car

The design patent leak shows that the Mahindra XUV e8 has inherited most of the design cues that were showcased via the concept model last year. The front fascia is completely revised with an LED light bar connecting the vertically set headlamps upfront. The absence of an air intake grille upfront gives away the SUV’s all-electric genes. The front fascia is upright and the bonnet line is set high with ample creases to impart a butch yet sophisticated design language. Mahindra also seems to have included the bronze highlights much like on the recently launched Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV.

The side profile remains large the same and the changes to major sheet metal parts have been limited to keep costs in check. The silhouette hence is familiar and looks typically XUV700-like. However, the inclusion of aerodynamically designed wheel covers indicates that the vehicle is an EV. Design features like the flush door handles, although are the same as the XUV700, could come in handy to improve the car’s drag coefficient to lend in some additional range.

The Mahindra XUV e8 will be based on Mahindra’s new INGLO skateboard born-electric architecture and is expected to house an 80kWh battery pack. Dimensionally, this new EV is expected to be 45mm longer, 10mm wider and 5mm taller than the XUV700 and will even have a 7mm longer wheelbase. Power is expected to be somewhere in between the 230bhp and 350bhp mark. There’s no indication of the range that can be expected from this SUV.
