Chinese manufacturer MEIZU and Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, have teamed up once again to launch their second Ubuntu smartphone – the MEIZU PRO 5 Ubuntu Edition. The specs of the PRO 5 Ubuntu Edition are identical to the Android-powered counterpart of the device that was launched in September last year. MEIZU and Canonical have partnered earlier for the MEIZU MX4 Ubuntu Edition.

The MEIZU PRO 5 Ubuntu Edition comes with Ubuntu’s ‘scopes’ UI, which are categorised home screens that provide a unified view of content in the particular category. As per the company, scopes are now more personalised and offer more interactive features on the new Pro 5. “The content-centric user experience has transformed the way we access our most important digital services – whether that’s music, social, web browsing or sharing photos and video. With scopes, all these services are available directly from the home screen,” Canonical said in a blog post.
