The SUV is expected to debut in India sometime in 2025 after MG receives a second round of funding that will finance its Gujarat plant. When launched, this new EV SUV will have no direct competitors but is expected to compete with the Tata Tiago EV and the Citroen eC3.

The Baajun Yep electric SUV will come to India rebranded as an MG product. The EV is expected to stay fairly similar to the Baojun Yep electric SUV which has been launched in its production guise in China recently. Subtle cosmetic changes and MG badges can be expected to be part of the Indian version. Such a similar treatment was seen when the Wuling Air EV was brought to India as the MG Comet EV.

The retro-themed SUV will be a four-seater vehicle with three doors and will be based on the Global Small Electric Vehicle platform (GSEV) just like the Comet EV. The compact SUV flaunts an upright stance and a rugged look thanks to the chunky bumpers, flared wheel arches, body cladding, roof rails, scuff plates, a flat bonnet with power bulges, etc. Interestingly, one can equip the Chinese model with an LCD screen at the back, which can display customised messages.

The Baojun Yep EV SUV measures 3,381mm in length, 1,685mm in width and 1,721mm in height, and gets a wheelbase of 2,110mm. When compared to the MG Comet EV that it’s based on, the Yep SUV is 407mm longer, 180mm wider and 81mm taller, while its wheelbase is 100mm longer. This means that the Yep SUV will offer more road presence, an essential factor for Indian SUV buyers. The SUV will also be rear-wheel drive thanks to a single electric motor which will power the rear axle. This motor produces 68bhp of peak power and 140Nm of peak torque. This powertrain enables the SUV to go up to a top speed of 100kmph and return a claimed range of 303km.
