Mi MIX 4 concept renders imagine what the innovative smartphone with wraparound display could look like

Xiaomi took the world by a pleasant surprise last year as it unveiled the futuristic Mi MIX Alpha smartphone with a first-of-its-kind wraparound display. Unfortunately, the handset is yet to go on sale due to production difficulties. However, 91mobiles recently spotted a patent filed by the company that showcased a more practical implementation of the wraparound display that could possibly be used by the brand in the yet-to-be-announced Mi MIX 4 smartphone. Notably, in this design, the display did not curve all the way to the middle of the rear panel, unlike the Mi MIX Alpha. This means that the possible downsides of the Mi MIX Alpha (potential scratches while putting it flat on a surface) can be avoided in a commercial unit.

Now, in association with the popular tech YouTuber Waqar Khan (aka @WaqarKhanHD), we bring you the concept renders of the Mi MIX 4, based on the design patent filed by the company. Please do keep in mind that the patent focuses primarily on the display design and rest of the elements on the phone are subject to change. For example, the phone can be seen featuring dual rear cameras in the patent, however, at this point in time, you can expect Xiaomi to include at least four cameras at the back, if not more. The design looks quite mesmerising in these renders and, going by the patent, Xiaomi clearly has plans to use it. In case it does, the Mi MIX 4 will indeed be the ideal device to debut it with since the premium MIX smartphones usually attract a lot of attention and have been used to show new designs, such as sliders.

Moving to the smartphone’s leaked specifications, the Mi MIX 4 is expected to sport a 2K display and have the latest Snapdragon 865 SoC ticking at its core. The phone has been tipped to feature up to 12GB RAM and up to 1TB UFS 3.0 storage (could be UFS 3.1 storage as well). There is expected to be a 4,500mAh battery with support for 45W wired charging and 30W wireless charging. For optics, the MIX 4 is rumoured to come with a 108MP primary rear camera, backed by a 16MP and a 12MP sensor, along with a periscope lens. Lastly, the handset will most likely feature support for 5G connectivity.
