Moto G Stylus specifications leak out in full, stylus features revealed

“The Moto G Stylus will be similar to the Moto G8 Power, while featuring support for a stylus”

Motorola ended 2019 with the unveiling of the Motorola Razr foldable phone. While the return of the iconic design with a novel foldable display has been quite exciting, the brand is also working on the mainstream side of things for 2020. Recent reports have revealed that the brand is working on launching the Moto G8, Moto G8 Power and a Moto phone with stylus, called Moto G Stylus. 91mobiles recently brought you renders of these phones.  Now, XDA Developers has claimed that an unnamed source has confirmed all specifications of the Moto G Stylus, and also revealed what the stylus itself will bring to the device.

According to the report, Moto G Stylus specifications include a full HD+, 6.36-inch display with 2,300 x 1,080 pixel screen resolution. The smartphone is said to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 64GB native storage, Android 10 out of the box, and a 4,000mAh battery with a rather slow 10W charging support. The fingerprint sensor is expected to be a physical, rear mounted one.

In terms of cameras, the rear will host a triple camera imaging unit with a 48-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.7 lens, an ultra-wide angle, f/2.2 117-degree lens with 16-megapixel sensor for ultra-wide angle and Moto’s Action Cam features, and a third, 2-megapixel f/2.2 unit for macro photography. The Action Cam was introduced first with the Motorola One Action, and is seemingly coming to more devices now. To the front, the device is said to host a punch hole, which will include a 25-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 lens.

More interestingly, XDA’s source states that the stylus will be accompanied by an app that can do a specific action or launch a particular app, every time the stylus is removed. The device will also feature a new app called Moto Note, which will allow users to take quick notes or create doodles and illustrations. It will have the ability to add watermarks to notes, and finger touch input can be used as eraser. The stylus can also be location tracked, and the report says that the stylus’ companion app will remember the last time and location when the stylus was removed. If it isn’t reinserted for long, the app will send notifications to remind the user about it, to prevent it from getting lost.

Given the extent of the report, we expect the Moto G Stylus to be unveiled quite soon. Motorola recently stated that it crossed 10 million units of the Moto-series being sold, since its introduction in late 2013. With the market being more competitive now, it remains to be seen if the once-pioneering mid-range smartphone can still hold its ground, more so with devices like the upcoming Moto G Stylus.
