OPPO seems to be working on phone with detachable secondary screen, new patent suggests

According to the OPPO patent description, the primary unit (the master screen) can communicate with an external device. The secondary unit can be installed in the primary unit. Interestingly, it can still communicate with the primary screen even after being detached, probably via Bluetooth or another form of wireless connectivity. The patent listing suggests the slave device will function as a traditional phone with a keyboard, screen, and wireless transceiver, but it seems to be missing out on cameras. The primary device has a bracket on the side where the second screen is connected.

The OPPO patent images show the phone has volume buttons on the left spine, while the speaker grille and USB Type-C port are at the bottom. It has dual camera sensors on the back. The slave device will add extra battery capacity and even probably storage to the main unit, in addition to bringing extra screen space. The slave device can sit flat on the primary display and can also be positioned at the desired angle, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3. Since the phone and the unique design are still in the patent stage, we can't tell for sure whether OPPO will ever launch such a phone but considering how unique it is, we hope it becomes a reality soon.
