Realme P1 launched in India as part of the company’s new P-series. The handset offers a premium AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 50MP camera, a large 5,000mAh battery, and Android 14 OS. Realme P1 gets a powerful MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chipset, which should offer great performance for the price. In this article, we compare the phone with the Redmi Note 13 5G to see which is a good buy in the segment.

Realme P1 vs Redmi Note 13: design
Realme P1 and Redmi Note 13 have different designs distinguishing them from the crowd. We get a large circular camera module on the Realme phone, while there is a square module on the top-left of the Redmi handset. Both come with a polycarbonate body, which is the standard in this price segment.
The Realme P1 and Redmi Note 13 offer a boxy chassis with rounded edges making them convenient to hold even for a long duration. We get a 3.5mm audio jack on both phones and an IP54 rating for splash resistance. While we get an in-display fingerprint sensor on the Realme P1, the sensor is placed on the side of the Redmi Note 13.

Realme P1 and Redmi Note 13 come with an AMOLED display and these offer vibrant colours, and punchy blacks which are visually appealing. They both have flat edges and narrow bezels to fit in more content on the screen. Redmi Note 13 Pro’s display is a 10-bit panel that can produce more colours with support for 2160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming. There is also Corning Gorilla Glass 5 layer.
Where Realme takes the lead is with the screen brightness. Realme P1’s display has a peak brightness of 2000nits panel compared to 1000nits on the Redmi Note 13. This will enable better outdoor visibility. There is also Rainwater touch support, which makes the screen usable even with water droplets. All said and done, except for the peak brightness, both panels should offer a pleasant viewing experience for media consumption or gaming.

Both the Realme P1 and Redmi Note 13 come with MediaTek Dimensity chipsets. While the former arrives with Dimensity 7050, the latter draws power from Dimensity 6080 chipset. However, the Realme P1 has an edge, thanks to its superior chipset and LPDDR4x/UFS 3.1 storage, which helps with better read and write speeds while accessing apps. In comparison, the Redmi phone only offers UFS 2.2 technology.
This is also evident from benchmarks. The Redmi Note 13 5G has scored 4.53 lakh points in the AnTuTu benchmark, while Realme P1 has secured a significant 6.02 lakh points. This translates well in real-world usage as well. The app opening speed is fast and switching between apps is almost instant. We haven’t noticed any lags or stutters in the UI. While it’s the same with Redmi Note 13 we did notice stutters with extensive usage or gaming.

Realme P1 features a 50MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture and a 2MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. We get a 16MP shooter on the front for selfies and video chats.
On the other hand, the Redmi Note 13 gets a larger 108MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro unit. Here too we get the same 16MP selfie shooter. Strictly from the numbers perspective, the Redmi phone offers versatility thanks to the inclusion of an ultra-wide-angle lens. The Redmi Note 13 should be a better choice for photography.

The Realme P1 and Redmi Note 13 have the same 5,000mAh battery cells. However, the difference is the Realme phone offers faster 45W charging compared to 33W on the Redmi phone. Our Redmi Note 13 review noted the phone takes a little over an hour to reach 100 percent from 0. While the Realme P1 takes one hour and two minutes to fully charge.
The Realme P1 and Redmi Note 13 run the latest Android 14 with a custom UI on top. Redmi Note 13 launched with Android 13 but the handset is now receiving the new Xiaomi HyperOS with Android 14. The handset will get three years of major updates and four years of security updates. Realme has promised two years of OS updates and three years of security patches.
Verdict
Realme P1 is a well-rounded phone among the two. It comes with a better-performing MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chipset, the latest Android 14 OS out of the box, a faster 45W charger, and a brighter AMOLED display. The Redmi Note 13 has an upper hand with a larger primary sensor and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. So, if you’re planning to buy a phone under Rs 20,000, the Realme P1 seems like a better choice if performance is a priority. However, if camera quality is important, the Redmi Note 13 seems like a better option.
