The successor to Redmi 7A comes with a new design, bigger display, and better camera sensor, and USB Type-C fast charging support. The Redmi 8A is also the first smartphone in the lineup to come with a Waterdrop-style Dot notch above the display. The phone has P2i splash-resistant coating, dedicated microSD card slot, AI face unlock instead of fingerprint scanner, and an octa-core chipset. The Redmi 8A price in India starts at Rs 6,499 for the base variant with 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The 3GB + 32GB variant is priced at Rs 6,999. Buyers can purchase the handset starting September 29th from Mi.com and Flipkart; the company says it will become available via offline stores “soon.” It comes in Sunset Red, Ocean Blue, and Midnight Black colour options.

Redmi 8A specifications

Talking about the specifications, the Redmi 8A ships with a 6.22-inch display that bears HD+ resolution, a notch for higher screen-to-body ratio, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. At the handset’s core Xiaomi uses the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 octa-core chipset as its predecessor Redmi 7A smartphone. The SoC is paired with 2GB RAM + 32GB storage for the base variant, while the top-end variant comes with 3GB RAM + 32GB storage. Both the variants feature a microSD card slot to further expand the storage up to 512GB.

For photography, there is a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 sensor on the rear. The camera has 1.4-micron pixel size and AI integrations to further enhance the results. The Redmi 8A is driven by a massive 5,000mAh battery with USB Type-C port and 18W fast-charging support; a 10W charger is bundled in the box.
