Samsung Galaxy S24 battery protection feature

The new battery protection feature for the Galaxy S24 series has three modes now — Basic protection, Adaptive protection, and Maximum protection. Here, ‘Adaptive protection’ is what intelligently charges your phone according to your sleep schedule, and in a way to help extend the battery life.

Adaptive protection: If you plug your phone in to the charger while sleeping, charging will stop at 80 percent. But it will finish charging to 100 percent just before you wake up. Samsung says that this feature provides moderate protection for people who charge their phone overnight. It will adapt to your sleeping schedule, which is decided based on your phone usage pattern.

You can select Adaptive protection from the Battery protection option under the settings menu. But you’ll have to tap on the text, and not just toggle the feature on. Then you’ll have to select Adaptive protection from the list of options available.

Basic protection: If you choose this feature then charging when your Galaxy S24’s battery reaches 100 percent then resumes when it drops to 95 percent. This is for people who keep their phones plugged into the charger, and use them. The charging cycle will continue every time the battery drops to 95 percent so that your phone is always charged to at least 95 percent.

Maximum protection: This feature when enabled will force stop charging at 80 percent, and it will resume only when the battery level drops below 80 percent. This feature is designed to offer the maximum protection for your phone but do note that charging will always be capped at 80 percent.
